About the Integration

Control key access with the Brivo access groups you already maintain, and keep a full audit trail of who took which key and when.

Torus is a cloud-native key management system. Electronic key cabinets hold the physical keys a site depends on, and the Torus software decides who can take which one. The certified integration connects that decision to Brivo, so the keys in the cabinet follow the same access rules as the doors.

You select the Brivo groups that should be able to take keys, and Torus imports those groups and their users. From then on the two systems stay aligned: Brivo remains the single record of who works at the site, and Torus checks against it. Rename a group in Brivo and it is renamed in Torus. Remove somebody in Brivo and their key access goes with them. Brivo card formats import as well, so the card already in someone’s pocket is what opens the cabinet.

What this changes is accountability for keys. Instead of a logbook or a spreadsheet, every key removal and return is recorded against a named person, with alerts for keys that are overdue or taken without authorization. When an auditor asks who held the key to a particular room last Tuesday, the answer takes a moment rather than an afternoon.

What It Does

  • Brivo groups become key permissions. Choose the Brivo groups that should reach the key cabinet and Torus imports those users as a user group.

  • One user record. Users, groups, and card formats come from Brivo, so there is no second database to maintain and no separate onboarding step.

  • Changes follow Brivo. Rename, move or remove someone in Brivo and Torus updates on the next sync, including revoking their key access.

  • The credential they already carry. Brivo card formats import into Torus, so the same card or tag that opens a door opens the key cabinet.

  • A key-level audit trail. Every key taken and returned is recorded against a named person, with alerts on overdue keys and unauthorized attempts.

How It Works

  1. 1. Connect.

Create an application for Torus in Brivo, then enter its API key and an administrator login in Torus.

  2. 2. Choose groups.

Select the Brivo groups whose members should be able to take keys.

  3. 3. Import.

Torus brings in those groups and their users, and changes made in Brivo follow on the next sync.

  4. 4. Take keys.

Cardholders present their Brivo credential at the cabinet, and only the keys they are cleared for are released.

What You Need

On the Brivo Side

  • A Brivo administrator account and an application record for Torus with authentication type Password
  • API key for that application
  • Brivo administrator ID and password entered in Torus
  • Brivo groups arranged to reflect who may take keys

On the Torus Side

  • Torus software with the integration feature activated on the account (standard Torus software license)
  • Cabinets sized for the site's key sets
  • Card format bit details entered in Torus
  • An administrator to complete the initial authorization

Where It Fits

Commercial Real Estate

Keys for mechanical rooms, tenant spaces and shared areas follow the same Brivo groups as the doors. When someone is removed in Brivo, their key access goes with them, and every key taken is recorded against a named person.

Schools

Staff use the Brivo credential they already carry to take keys for classrooms, labs and storage, and only people in the approved Brivo groups can reach each key.

Higher Education

Facilities teams, contractors and campus staff take keys with their existing credentials, and the audit trail shows who held a key to a given space on a given day.

Healthcare

Keys for supply rooms, equipment and restricted areas are released only to staff in the approved Brivo groups, with alerts for keys that are overdue or taken without authorization.

Hotels

Engineering, housekeeping and back-of-house keys follow the same Brivo groups that govern the doors, and overdue alerts flag keys that do not come back.
