SaaS Talk  Steve Van Till is Brivo’s President and CEO. He serves on the Security Industry Association’s Board of Directors and has been active in its standards efforts. What is Physical Security as a Service? In the decade or so since the widespread adoption of the Internet, Web-based application services and pay-per-use business models have established Software as a Service (SaaS) as the dominant new paradigm for application deployment and delivery. These two technology trends have merged with a general shift toward hosted, service-based offerings in which vendors manage technology roles formerly handled by end user IT staff. The result—as in numerous other business application domains where outsourcing has proven its value—is that physical security is now moving to “the cloud” and using SaaS to deliver better services, more reliably, with lower TCO. We call this “Physical Security-as-a-Service,” or PSaaS, and it’s the exclusive focus of Cloud Cover. Success Story - Grubb Ventures
Grubb Ventures has expanded its Brivo ACS WebService™ installation to cover more doors and integrate with elevators systems to provide enhanced security for their tenants. ASG Security is the integrator in charge of the on-going project. Grubb Ventures boasts a number of high-profile corporate tenants such as banks and investment advisors, as well as several state boards and agencies that require a high degree of management control to ensure the safety of staff, records, and assets. In 2006, Grubb sought to significantly upgrade access control and overall security at its building complex. At that time, Grubb wanted an access control solution they could “test drive” and implement over time as his needs expanded. Grubb Ventures deployed Brivo ACS WebService first in the 110,000-square foot 3700 Glenwood Place building. Through mid-2007, Grubb had installed Brivo in some of its buildings covering about 40 doors. After this gradual roll-out, Grubb then standardized on Brivo ACS WebService. “Now Brivo is all I install,” said Bill Burgess, Facilities Manager for Grubb Ventures. To date, Burgess and ASG Security have installed nine Brivo ACS panels, covering more than 60 doors in eight buildings that manage daily access for more than 1,000 staff and customers from a highly diverse base of commercial clients. Brivo Bits Brivo to Discontinue Internet Explorer 6 Support Due to the increasing number, and severity, of the security incidents involving Internet Explorer 6 (IE6), Brivo has decided to discontinue formal IE6 support by August 2010. In addition to improving the security of your Brivo experience, this change will also allow us to employ newer browser features to deliver capabilities that are not possible in IE6. What do you need to do? Internally, make sure your users upgrade to IE7 or IE8 by August 2010, and begin communicating this change to your customers now.
