Market Spotlight - Religious Institutions

Religious institutions have complicated access needs, often coupled with limited IT resources and budget constraints. Brivo's ACS WebService gives churches and other religious institutions unprecedented flexibility and control over their facilities—at a price that fits their budgets.

  • Eliminate the expense and hassle of managing locks and keys. Brivo's system allows administrators to simply issue and revoke cards and PINs.
  • Eliminate having to physically unlock sanctuary doors. Instead, administrators can create automatic door timers and even special holiday schedules.
  • Manage meeting groups and special events easily. Church administrators and religious leaders can add, change, or delete credentials on the fly.
  • No network or IT resources required to run the system. All software upgrades and system maintenance is performed by Brivo.
  • Remote administration of the system can be done through any Web browser anywhere in the world, anytime!
  • Maintain the beauty of the sanctuary. Brivo's wireless control panels eliminate the need for unsightly wiring.

Recent Success Story
St. Andrew's Cathedral, Hawaii

St. Andrew's Cathedral complex is located in downtown Honolulu, HI. Their access control needs were numerous and diverse, with buildings that include a Fellowship Hall, the Sacristy, an administration building, a theater, and the Cathedral itself, and various groups—priests and administration personnel, prayer and study groups, and wedding parties, to name a few—that need access to them. St. Andrews had already installed an Ethernet network throughout their complex, so Security Systems Hawaii proposed the Brivo system to tie into the existing network and combine all the buildings into one unified account.

Without having to invest in additional network infrastructure, the solution met St. Andrews' budget. Bringing all of the buildings and various groups into one account provides centralized administration and a seamless view of the entire complex. In addition, St. Andrews IT personnel were happy to have no additional servers or software to maintain, and not have to dedicate a PC to the system.

Brivo's XML-RPC Interface: What it Means To You

Brivo's XML interface opens the door to virtually unlimited integration opportunities between Brivo access control systems and other enterprise systems. The classic example is of a Human Resources system passing information to the access control system. New employees are automatically assigned proper credentials, and terminated employees have theirs automatically revoked. The efficiency saves time and improves accuracy.

The examples are endless—someone signs up online for a free week's membership at a fitness club and automatically receives an entry PIN code, valid only that week; a monthly parking lease holder fails to pay his bill, and after an established grace period, his card expires. To learn more about how it works, read our press release or contact your Regional Sales Manager.

Feature Spotlight - Notifications

Brivo's access control systems can send notifications of events that can be received by a cell phone, email, or PDA. Notifications can be:

  • Access events such as when certain groups or users enter select doors
  • Exception events such as when the "Front Door" is ajar for three minutes
  • Device events such as when a motion sensor engages
  • Control panel events such as when the control panel loses AC power
  • A summary of activity from the previous day, across all sites

Creating a rule is as easy as the rest of the Brivo interface. When logged into the account, select the "Notifications" tab. From there, a new rule can be created by selecting the desired events from a list. Enter one or more email addresses and save the rule. That's all there is to it! To send to a cell phone, all you need is the number and the service provider-specific domain, for example: 3015555555@vtext.com, where "vtext.com" is for a Verizon phone number.

With ACS WebService, this feature is available without any special system setup. ACS OnSite sends notifications through the internal mail server. The ACS OnSite Administrator's Guide posted on our Technical Support Administrator's Guides page has a section on "Configuring the SMTP Server" that walks through how to enable this feature.
