Grubb Properties Installs Brivo ACS to Satisfy Diverse Tenant Base
User-friendly access control cuts costs, improves security, and delights tenants
Bethesda, MD, August 7, 2007 — Brivo Systems, LLC, the leader in Web applications for access control and security systems, today announced that Grubb Properties, a developer and manager of commercial real estate, has installed Brivo ACS WebService in a number of their buildings and plans to expand their Brivo ACS coverage to newly completed and renovated properties. For 40 years, Grubb Properties has been a leader in providing customers and partners with superior residential, commercial, and development products and services in the Charlotte and Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary) markets of North Carolina. The project integrator is Wilmington, DE-based Matrix Security Group, Inc., provider of integrated electronic security and life safety solutions to business, governments, and homes.
The 110,000-square foot 3700 Glenwood Place building, managed by Grubb Properties in Raleigh, NC, installed Brivo earlier this year and the company plans to continue to add Brivo throughout the seven-building Glenwood Place complex. The complex is one of several in which Grubb Properties has installed Brivo ACS. “Previously, we had access control in one of our buildings,” said Bill Burgess, Facilities Manager for Grubb Properties, “but it wasn’t user-friendly at all—we had to do manual archiving every month, it worked erratically, and we generally just had problems. We wanted to upgrade, so I did a demo of the Brivo system. We installed one panel, and I loved it. Now Brivo is all I install.” Along with Burgess, Jeannie Hoffman of Grubb also manages the Brivo system for the multiple locations.
To date, Grubb Properties has installed nine Brivo ACS panels, covering 44 doors that manage access for more than a thousand staff and customers daily for their multiple commercial clients. Burgess was impressed with several aspects of the Brivo ACS, “We didn’t have to buy software, it’s all managed by Brivo. We pay one monthly fee, all upgrades are included, and the price doesn’t change. And the way the system is structured, well, a five-year old could operate it. I’m also pleased with Brivo’s Customer Care Line, the staff always want input on how they can improve the system. They are one of the best features of the system.”
Grubb Properties boasts a number of high-profile corporate tenants, as well as several state boards and agencies that require a high degree of management control to ensure the safety of staff and records. If tenants want to investigate an incident or request a report, Burgess or Hoffman can comply easily and immediately. Recently, Grubb Properties has added video surveillance to their Brivo access control capabilities and Burgess reports that “break-ins and thefts have just about gone to zero—that’s a huge asset for us and our tenants.”
Before Brivo everyone carried metal keys around, now tenants have 24-hour access to their offices. Under the key system, Grubb Properties had to pay someone to go around and open doors when needed and rely on the cleaning staff to lock up when finished. Now, Burgess and staff do all of that automatically and they know it’s done. When it comes to return on investment (ROI), Burgess estimates that with the reduction in man hours needed and the added convenience and efficiency, the system has probably already paid for itself. “But that’s not the biggest issue,” he commented, “I want it [Brivo ACS] to give me the tools I need so we can perform in a way that keeps our tenants happy.”
